The WooCommerce REST API uses API keys to control access to your store’s data. These keys are associated with specific WordPress users and provide secure access to your store's information. If you need to create or manage API keys for a user, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Navigate to the API Key Settings:

  • In your WooCommerce dashboard, go to:

WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > REST API.

Note: In WooCommerce versions prior to 3.4, API keys were located under WooCommerce > Settings > API > Keys/Apps.

Step 2: Add a New API Key:

  • Once you are on the REST API settings page, click Add Key.

This will take you to the Key Details screen where you can configure the new API key.

Step 3: Configure the API Key:
In the Key Details screen, you'll need to enter the following information:

  • Description: Provide a name or description for the API key (e.g., "LateShipment Integration").
  • User: Choose the WordPress user for whom you want to generate the API key. This user will have access to the WooCommerce store data via the API.
  • Permissions: Choose the level of access for the API key:

Read/Write access: Full access to both view and modify store data.

Step 4: Generate the API Key:

  1. Once you have filled out the information, click Generate API Key.
  2. WooCommerce will generate two important pieces of information:
  • Consumer Key: This is a unique identifier used by the application to authenticate with your store.
  • Consumer Secret: This is a secret key paired with the Consumer Key that is used for secure authentication.
  • Your store's URL.

Note: The consumer key and consumer secret will appear only once. Please copy them carefully and save them.

Step 5: Getting your store URL:

  • To find your WooCommerce shop URL, log into your WordPress dashboard and go to Settings » General.

  • On that page, the Site Address (URL) option is the shop URL for your WooCommerce store.

Step 5: Use the API Keys:
Once the keys have been generated, go to your LateShipment account. On the homepage, select Returns Experience Management, then click Get Started. From the drop-down menu, select WooCommerce and paste the following information:

  • Consumer Key
  • Consumer Secret
  • Your store’s URL
  • Weight unit

Important Notes:

  • Security: Keep your Consumer Key and Consumer Secret secure. Do not share them with unauthorized users or applications.
  • Revoking Keys: If an API key is no longer needed or you suspect it has been compromised, use the Revoke Key button to disable it.
